A toxic relationship is a relationship characterized by behaviors on the part of the toxic partner that are emotionally and physically damaging to their loved one. It is mainly a negative relationship where the victim is taken advantage of by favors, or just draining the victim of their energy and the toxic person just takes and never gives back. A well known toxic relationship in pop culture is Chris Brown and Rihanna. In that relationship Chris Brown was an abusive person in that relationship as you can see from what happened to Rihanna.
A prediction of a toxic relationship that may occur is Katherine and Petruchio. Because in the book “The taming of the shrew” so far in the book Petruchio only wants the money and nothing else which this maybe an issue in the future. The reason is Petruchio does not even love Katherine and in a relationship both people have to me 50/50 instead he’s in it for the money. What may be a shocker is Lucentio having a toxic relationship with bianca just food for thought.
I agree that Katherine and Petruchio have the potential to end up in a toxic relationship. However I don't think Lucentio and Bianca will end up in one.

A toxic relationship is a relationship characterized by behaviors that can be physically and emotionally damaging to a loved one. These types of relationships can happen in situations with friends, families or a significant other. They comes in many forms such as mentally abusive, physically abusive or most common, which is passive aggressive. In most cases, people who are in toxic relationships are too blind to see that what they are getting themselves into and not realizing that it is actually doing more harm than good. For instance, a well known toxic relationship in pop culture is in the movie Twilight. Many people are starting to believe that the relationship between Bella and Edward is toxic. In the movie, Bella falls in love with Edward and the second he leaves her she believes her life is over and wants to commit suicide. This is not promoting a good relationship to anyone, let alone for the kids that are watching and looking up to these characters.
In the play, the Taming of the Shrew, we see many characters that have the potential to be in a toxic relationship. A prime example who will have not so good end results is Katherine and Petruchio. From the title The Taming of the Shrew, Katherine being the shrew, we can already predict that it is not going to end well. Petruchio is only in the relationship for the money and Katherine wants no part of any male. Because of Katherine being described as curst, this might affect Petruchio and hurt him. This is already not ending well and may result in a toxic relationship with a lot of struggles.
Logan, I totally agree that Twilight has toxic relationships, that's a great example! I also agree that in The Taming of the Shrew Katherine and Petruchio may end in a very toxic relationship!

With how Katherine acts with people I don't think she will be nice to Petruchio. Also, Petruchio only is in for the money not her. Thats what makes their relationship toxic.

Kathrine is inlove with another guy and Petruchio just wants her money. I only see Kathrines and Petruchios relationship failing and being toxic.
I agree with you, both Katherine and Petruchio are strong characters, and that may result in a toxic relationship! Justin and Selena are a great example of a toxic relationship! Their relationship is so unhealthy, yet they keep getting back together!

For instance, Petruchio wants marry Katherine and get her money and Katherine barely has an interest in any males. If they do actually get married it is very possible it will be a toxic relationship.
I liked your example of the cartoon Tom and Jerry being a toxic relationship! Perfect example because from the picture of the two characters, you know from the start that a cat and a mouse don't get along.

Sometimes in toxic relationships the person being harmed can't realize that the relationship is not doing them any good. Theres a lot of negative behavior that occurs in the relationship which can also lead to depression in another person. One toxic relationship in pop culture is Rihanna and Chris Brown. Chris Brown was very abusive in their relationship and caused it to become very toxic.
ReplyDeleteThere are many characters in the play that has potential of becoming in a toxic relationship. In my opinion I think Katherine and Petruchio’s relationship will become toxic. Because Katherine is shrew, we already have a result that their relationship won't last. Petruchio also only wants katherine for her money. Because Katherine is said to be curst, Petruchio may end not wanting any part of the relationship and may become hurt because of this. This is an indication why their relationship may become toxic.

A toxic relationship is a relationship where people are overly mean or abusive. Some people are passive aggressive, where they never follow through. Toxic relationships are everywhere in our world. In the movie Bride Wars, the two main characters Liv and Emma fight because they are getting married on the same day and the same place. Liv and Emma were best friends, but they tried to destroy each others weddings. These two characters were in a toxic relationship because they were being overly mean. Liv and Emma were mentally and emotionally abusing one another.
In the novel The Taming of the Shrew, Katherine and Petruchio may end up having a toxic relationship. Katherine is rude and does not want any man in her life. Petruchio wants to marry a rich woman, he could care less if he is in love with Katherine, he just wants her families money. Katherine will be extremely mean to Petruchio and he will not care about Katherine. Petruchio and Katherine are not in love with one another, there for their relationship may end up in a highly toxic relationship.
I completely agree with the fact that Katherine and Pertruchio will not be a good match. They both are in the relationship for the wrong reasons!

ReplyDeleteIt’s pretty easy to tell who will have healthy relationships and who will have toxic relationships in the book The Taming of the Shrew. Right off the bat, you can tell that once Katherine and Pertruchio meet, their relationship will be toxic. Catherine feels that she doesn’t need anyone in her life and doesn’t want a man to try to influence her in any way. Also all Pertruchio wants is money, whether he has to marry an 80 year old woman, or marry a woman like Katherine, he will do it. Both of them don’t spiritually or even emotionally “feel” each other. Nothing good should come out of their relationship and therefore, I predict they are the toxic relationship of The Taming of the Shrew.

DeleteToxic relationships are different from normal relationships. They are caused by one partner (or both) having a detrimental attitude that harms the other. This could be by physical means, emotional, or psychological. It takes away the partner's self-esteem and overall energy. For example, in the movie School of Rock, Jack Black's roommate has a girlfriend that is constantly putting him down. She has no respect for him, and it affects him greatly throughout the movie. He seems unsure of his own opinions and emotions unless she says something, which is usually mean.
ReplyDeleteIn Taming of the Shrew, it's obvious that our two 'lovebirds' will be in a toxic relationship. Katherine "the curst" and Petruchio would not make the best long-term couple. He is in the relationship for money, and she is just mean. Katherine would constantly be putting him down and/or calling him names, as we've already seen from their interesting exchange. Neither of them would be in the relationship to actually be in the relationship, and that is a toxic outcome for both of them.
A toxic relationship is a relationship where people do not get along mentally or physically. No matter what you do or say your partner wont take the time to listen or hear. This can result in arguments verbally and sometimes physically.For example, on the reality show Jersey shore Ronnie and Sammie are in a toxic relationship. Ron loves Sam very much however, Sam will not take the time to understand and listen to him which results in Ron turning to anger and destroying all her stuff in her room one night. The fight is stopped after a roommate breaks it u. If it wasn't for that roommate that fight could have easily turned very physical.

She does not listen to him at all and goes on in her rude and sarcastic remarks to him. Petruchio is also just marrying Kate for her wealth so neither of them will be in a true relationship for each other. This signifys a very toxic relationship between the two.
I agree with this saying that Ronnie and Sam were in a toxic relationship because if you were too watch the show you would see the damage they do to each other mentally. This was a great example of a toxic relationship.

ReplyDeleteIn the Taming of the Shrew a toxic relationship I predict is between Bianca and whoever she falls in love with. If she were to find out people like Lucentio lied to her, she may become angry with them.
I feel that this prediction could as well happen, as no one is really saying who they really are. Like for example Lucentio claims to be a tutor named Cambio and if they do end up getting married Lucentio would have to tell one day who he really is.

An example of a toxic relationship in a movie would be Bella and Edward in Twilight. In the movie, Edwards dictates who Bella is allowed to hang out with or be friends with. He is constantly watching over Bella and is very possessive of her. Edward also stalks Bella throughout the movie. This is a toxic relationship because the way Edwards treats Bella causes her to feel uncomfortable around him. Bella is never heard. Edwards tries to control who Bella is physically and mentally which is causing them to have a toxic relationship.

I feel that this relationship could turn into a toxic relationship because Katherina isn’t interested in getting married and is referred as a wench by others in the novel. Another reason is that Petruchio is a gold digger and is only in it for the money and not the love. Petruchio and Katherina will just be getting into arguments because they don’t care about each other so dont care if someone gets offended or hurt by what they do and say. These are the reasons why i feel that these two characters will get into a toxic relationship.

There relationship is going to be bad because Kate has the personality of not liking anyone and mad at the world for no reason. Petruchio Is going to do whatever it takes to marry Kate but she wants nothing to do with him and that's what causes the conflict and the toxic relationship.

Toxic relationships are unhealthy relationship that can mentally and physically impact one's life in negative ways. Toxic relationships are hard to get out of, they are demeaning and they can be dishonest. One sign of a toxic relationship is how you feel. One of the individuals may be taking advantage of the other, and disregard the other person's feelings. One of pop culture's most notorious examples of a toxic relationship is Rihanna and Chris Brown. During the day before the Grammy awards on February 2009, Chris Brown assaulted Rihanna over an argument about a text message from a girl. Chris Brown resorted to violence in an argument which caused tremendous physical and emotional damage to Rihanna. When situations like this happen in a relationship, it is highly recommended that you get out of it.
Petruchio and Katherine are most likely to enter a toxic relationship out of all of the characters in The Taming of The Shrew. For one, Petruchio's motive for marrying Katherine is for money and not love. There are already indications that Katherine and Petruchio's relationship will be destructive. In their first meeting they play off each other's comments that consist of verbal sparring and disagreement. Since Kate is a shrew, she is very quick-witted and enjoys taunting other people, which will not go well in the relationship. Petruchio is also shrewd and has a conceited character, which may lead to violence. In all, people like Petruchio and Katherine do not mix well together and can lead to a disastrous relationship.
I agree with what you were saying Geraldine with your example of a toxic relationship by using Chris Brown and Rihanna's relationship at the time. Relationships where it's just nothing but physical violence is unhealthy and the person that is being physical abused needs to get out of the relationship and get some help.

Another example is relationships governed by emotional blackmail. Emotional blackmail is when someone applies an emotional penalty against you when you don’t do exactly what they want. For example you change your behavior, against your will, as a result of the emotional blackmail.
